Privacy Policy

At Beefy, your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using our app you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following data types, all linked to your account and used only to operate the app: your first name and email address (including the email or private relay address provided by Sign in with Apple); health and fitness data you enter, such as age, sex, height, weight, goals, calorie and macro intake, and workouts; the meal photos you submit; a user ID that identifies your account; a device identifier used by our subscription provider; your purchase history (your subscription status); and product interaction data, such as scans, paywall views and feature usage, used to understand and improve the app. If you choose to connect Apple Health, Beefy also reads your active calories burned on your device. Photos and health data are described further below.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to provide and personalise the app experience, power AI meal recognition and nutritional estimates, calculate your calorie and macro targets, send you progress notifications and recommendations, improve our models and services, and respond to support requests.

3. Photos and Meal Data

Meal photos you submit, together with the profile details needed to personalise results (age, height, weight, goals and eating habits), are sent through our secure server to third-party AI model providers (via OpenRouter) to identify food, estimate nutritional content and generate your plan, meal ideas, missions and daily briefing. We ask for your explicit permission before the first time this happens, and you can decline. Photos are stored in your private storage while your account is active. We do not allow these providers to use your data for advertising, and we do not use your meal photos to train models.

4. Health Data

Health and fitness data (weight, calories, macros, activity) is sensitive. We store it securely and do not sell it to advertisers or third parties.

5. Apple Health (HealthKit)

If you choose to connect Apple Health, Beefy asks for read-only access to one data type: Active Energy (active calories burned). We use it only to add the calories you burn today to your daily calorie goal inside the app. Beefy never writes to Apple Health and does not read any other Health data. Data obtained from Apple Health is processed on your device: it is not uploaded to our servers, not stored in iCloud, not shared with third parties (including our AI providers), and never used for advertising, marketing or data mining. You can revoke access at any time in the iOS Settings app (Health → Data Access & Devices → Beefy) or turn the sync off in Beefy's Profile screen.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with service providers who help us operate the app: Supabase (database, authentication and file storage), OpenRouter and the AI model providers it routes to (AI analysis, see section 3), RevenueCat and Apple (subscriptions and payments). Apple Health data is never shared (see section 5). We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users. We do not use your data to track you: we do not combine it with data from other companies' apps or websites for advertising, we do not show third-party ads, and we do not share it with data brokers.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from the Profile screen (Delete account), which permanently removes your profile, meals, photos and progress from our systems (copies in backups are purged within 30 days). Deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription: manage or cancel it in your Apple ID subscription settings.

8. Security

We use industry-standard encryption (TLS in transit, AES-256 at rest) to protect your data. However, no system is completely secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to contact us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access.

9. Children's Privacy

Beefy is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have done so, we will delete that data promptly.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data; object to or restrict certain processing; and data portability. To exercise these rights, contact us at trybeefy@shiplog-app.com.

11. Third-Party Services

The app integrates with third-party services such as Sign in with Apple, Apple Health (optional, read-only, see section 5), RevenueCat and the App Store for subscriptions, and the AI providers described above. These services have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review them.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
